Pulau Jerejak raped by PBA

Pulau Jerejak today

Pulau Jerejak was one of the Penang State Park since May 2007. Although not officially declared like Bukit Panchor State Park, it is still a state park. But look at the sorrow state now. If you use Penang Bridge, you can see this ugly hill development by PBA.....yes the same agency under Penang State Government. Although I should think that the project was by the previous Barisan Najis, I don't understand why our C-A-T government is closing both eyes. And for your information, PBA is building some kind of a reservior. Do you need one there?

Here are the reasons why a reservior is not necessary:

1. There is no villlage in Pulau Jerejak - just a resort and a shipyard. Do you need a reservior? Using public money to fund private companies?
2. Pulau Jerejak don't have high mountain/hills. Do you think there are enough water to fill the reservior?

3. There is already a reservoir in Pulau Jerejak (at the resort's hanging bridge). Why build another white elephant?

4. Water is now pumped from Penang Island to the Jerejak island and stored in a tank. Why the need to damage the island?

5. If you notice the hill cutting, it will cause mud flow and affect the island ecosystem. How can a state park has such massive hill cuttings development?

Will somebody explain what is the use of naming Pulau Jerejak a State Park? Stupid isn't it?

Logging in Penang State Park?

In Penang, there is a national park called Penang National Park at Teluk Bahang.

Bukit Panchor State Penang is the first state park declared on 9 Aug 2007. Another state park at Pulau Jerejak is on the pipeline.

State parks are governed by the state whereas the national parks are protected by the federal government. Development and logging are strictly disallowed in both....as far as I know until now.

But right here at Bukit Panchor State Park you could see logs right at the park headquarter. Is there logging? You tell me.

Observe carefully, you could see blue marking lines to indicate the size of the log.
More logs.
The modus operandi of actual logging are those of arranged logs, diameter measurements and certain length for logs.
If there is indeed logging, I hope our present Penang State Government will benefit from the sale. Or is there any hanky panky? So, is there logging in the Penang State Park?
Hope someone from Forestry could answer this.

Penang State Parks

Today, I read in the paper, that Bukit Panchor and Pulau Jerejak are now designated as state parks.

Ten years ago, I would have been jumping with joy when Bukit Panchor and Pulau Jerejak should be declared state parks. Not today, not now!

The declaration spells more developments - like moving city into the jungle! More developments meant more trees to cut, more infrastructures, more woods to use, more people will be visiting them, more buildings, more 10 percent stories, more wastages and more I don't-know!

Please don't get me wrong. I have not indicated that I am against the state parks. I am only giving my opinion that in Bolehland, "everything also can!" They said, "Build as you like". Contractors 'F' will be laughing to their banks. I am not against them making money but the management of these natural resources will be "build as you please"! "We just want state parks, just like other states"! "We will do anything for 10 percent"! "After all we got the budget"!

And the story goes.....

Bolehland : Now we have state parks!

Contractors : Yes, now I can help build infrastructures at state parks to attract visitors.

Bolehland : Yes, you can build more roads into the forests so that those cannot walk can also visit the forests. You should build bigger information and interpretive buildings. And don't forget to build 5-stars toilets....nevermind about maintenance...build first, that one can "belakang kira"! And don't "BOCOR lagi"....if not Sunny Value will give another multi million bill for repairs again!

Contractors : Ok boss, don't worry about the 10 percent....I will "Kau tim"

Taxpayers: (stratching heads....now we have to pay more taxes)

Are you happy that Penang finally got her state parks?

As for me, I am very happy...but with reservation! You?

Let's wait and see the consequences of having state parks vs recreational forests!
